The Little Haiti Computer Clubhouse, the first in the State of Florida, opened in early 2002. This vibrant environment allows youth to explore their own ideas and to use high-end software in creating dynamic and innovative projects that have real-world applications. Under the guidance of community mentors, youth are able to record a CD or video, create and animate robots, and create web pages and graphics for their own businesses. To date, we have served over 750 young people ages 8 to 18, with about 45% of those being young girls.

LHHA is one of the select host agencies around the world of the Intel Computer Clubhouse. The award-winning Clubhouse is a space where youth from underserved communties come to explore their own interests through technology, with the guidance of adult mentors.

From the results of an earlier parent survey, LHHA assessed that the lack of after-school programs and access to technology were some of the most urgent needs of the community. The Clubhouse has been very successful in equipping the youth of this neighborhood with technological skills for the new economy.

The goals of the Computer Clubhouse is to improve young people's ability to:

1) Express themselves with technology

2) Collaborate and work in teams

3) Solve complex problems

4) Develop, plan, and execute complex projects

5) Develop self-esteem and self-efficacy.
