As a 2005 HOPE Awards winner for Education the Homebuyer Education program mainly serves the first generation Haitian residents of northeast Miami, Florida (Little Haiti). LHHA designed its Homeownership Training program in 1992 to address the issues of the lack of understanding of financial institutions, lack of trust in institutions, and the language barrier. Recruitment for the program is done over the radio, through church, and personal referrals. As awareness of the program has spread, more and more families have been able to solidify their financial future through realizing the dream of homeownership.

The Homeownership program consists of an orientation, one-to-one interview with a home buying counselor, two weeks of HBE classes, and post-occupancy support. The HBE program is a two-week course during closing and transitioning into occupancy of an affordable home. For information regarding the courses please contact David Carty at 305.759.2542 ext. 120. If you would like to donate to this program or to any program at Little Haiti Housing Association, Inc. please contact Guiselle Hunter-Chin at 305.759.2542 ext. 118.
